Summary
The position is responsible for directing all activities of the Business Office including payroll, accounts payable, student billings, grant accounting, investment income, cash management and credit card functions. The position works with board members, as well as external auditors, investment, banking and collection professionals. Reports to the Vice President & Chief Financial Officer.
Responsibilities
Formulate and recommend policies and programs to establish and improve financial reporting and internal controls. Supervise the staff as to methods, procedures, and standards of performance. Manage and direct daily accounting services such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and cash management. Oversee all student billings including payment plans, tuition deferments and third party invoicing. Maintain general ledger and reconcile accounts; responsible for month-end and year-end close processes. Responsible for grant accounting. Work with external auditors on year-end audit. Manage college credit card purchasing program. Prepare governmental and other regulatory reports.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field. Minimum six years experience in an accounting position preferably in higher education or a non-profit institution, including evidence of increasing responsibilities, initiative and supervisory skills. Experience in maintaining accounting systems in a database technology environment. Strong communication, technical database skills, including report writing, and collaborative skills to work within an inclusive community. CPA preferred. Knowledge of Federal Financial Aid a plus.
