Social Work Professor Chosen to Serve on National Task Force

February 25, 2016

The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) recently announced the appointment of Ursuline’s Social Work Professor and Director of Field Education, Sharon Zimmerman Wilson to serve on the Boards’ Practice Analysis Task Force. She will help to analyze the practice of social work at all professional levels of work for the purpose of licensure.

Wilson’s years as a social worker and a social work educator at Ursuline for the last 26 years gives her a unique perspective on what it means to be a competent social work professional working with vulnerable populations.

“I am excited about being selected for the task force. It is a privilege to work with social workers from around the United States to help determine the knowledge and practice skills necessary for licensing and for our profession,” Wilson commented.

ASWB is getting ready to begin its sixth analysis of the practice of social work—the crucial first step in keeping the licensing exams up-to-date with social work practice. As usual, this practice analysis will include thousands of surveys; hundreds of knowledge, skills, and ability statements (KSAs); and dozens of competencies to be evaluated for the new blueprints. ASWB’s Board of Directors has approved the appointment of 20 social workers to the Practice Analysis Task Force that will help with all that heavy lifting. This group was drawn from more than 300 applications submitted, for the first time online, by social workers from all over the U.S. and Canada. All licensed or registered social workers were eligible to apply for consideration.
