Ursuline College to host OPUS 216 for community concert on the quad

July 10, 2018

The acclaimed chamber music ensemble OPUS 216 will perform on the quad at Ursuline College on Friday, Aug. 10, from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. The public is invited to this free concert and audience members are encouraged to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs.

In case of rain, the concert will be held in the atrium of Ursuline’s Bishop Anthony M. Pilla Student Learning Center.

The musicians of OPUS 216 say they are just as at home with The Beatles as they are with Bach or Beethoven. Most of these versatile performers hold multiple degrees from some of the country’s top classical music conservatories.

The ensemble was established in 2012 with its first performance at the inaugural MIX event at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Since then, OPUS 216 has provided music for hundreds of events throughout Ohio, from public stages for large audiences to intimate home concerts.

“In this performance at Ursuline College, Mozart juxtaposes South American jazz and tangos. George Gershwin precedes Philip Glass and improvisations based on Icelandic avant-rock,” said violinist Ariel Clayton Karas, founder and director of OPUS 216.

Free-will offerings will benefit the Friends of Ursuline’s Ralph M. Besse Library.
