In July of 2011, Division II took the initiative to prepare women and minorities for future director of athletics positions by sponsoring a mentorship program. Partnering with the Division II Athletics Directors Association, this mentoring program matches promising women and minority administrators who hope to become athletics directors with proven athletics directors.
"I'm really excited to get started," McKnight said. "I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from a lot of great people throughout my career and I hope I can have a positive influence for someone coming up in the ranks."
UC President Sr. Diana Stano picked McKnight to start the athletic department in 1999 and she played a vital role in creating the school's first 11 varsity programs.
McKnight paired with the College's administration to lead the process toward becoming a full-time member of the NCAA and in 2006-07, she was named the Athletic Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
