Mandala Dedication and Workshop: Weaving Spiritual Traditions

October 05, 2017

On Saturday, October 7, the Ursuline College community held a dedication ceremony of the new Tree Mandala that is planted at the southeast corner of campus. This publicly visible, earth-based art installation was funded in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture as one element in a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of Ursuline College’s move to Pepper Pike. The trees will grow and be pruned over the decades in celebration of the College’s relationship with Pepper Pike and of human relationships with all of God’s creation. Thus the installation is titled “All Our Relations.”

Later this month on October 20 and 21, the Art Department in collaboration with the Theological and Pastoral Studies graduate program will also host a workshop, “The Mandala Workshop: Weaving Spiritual Traditions.” This workshop will help further celebrate and update our understanding of how mandalas have been used as cross-cultural symbols of the holistic union of humanity, Earth and the universe for the last 17,000 years. It will focus on making, walking, praying and living out what the mandala means in this 21st century. The participants will be given opportunities to enter into the experience of creating mandalas, telling stories, singing, journaling, making and praying in an outdoor Medicine Wheel or walking our Labyrinth, sitting around the mandala of a table and sharing a meal together.

The workshop will be offered both for credit and non-credit. Please click here for more information.
