Ursuline College is accepting submissions of artwork through July 8, 2017, from emerging and professional artists living in Pepper Pike and adjacent communities for “Eastern Edge: A Juried Art Exhibition.” To be eligible, artists must be 18 or older and living in Pepper Pike or any of the following communities on the eastern edge of Cuyahoga County: Beachwood, Bentleyville, Chagrin Falls, Chagrin Falls Township, Gates Mills, Glenwillow, Highland Heights, Hunting Valley, Lyndhurst, Mayfield, Mayfield Heights, Moreland Hills, Orange, Solon and Woodmere, Ohio.
The show will be on view in Ursuline's Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery from Aug. 18 through Oct. 6, 2017. Cash awards totaling $2,800 will be announced at the exhibition's opening reception Aug. 18, from 5-8p.m. Award winners will be posted on Ursuline College's website at www.ursuline.edu. The Best in Show Purchase Award is $1,000; first prize Award of Excellence is $750; second prize Award of Distinction is $500; third prize Award of Merit is $250; and three honorable mentions will each receive $100.
"During the ongoing celebration of the 50th anniversary of Ursuline College’s move to Pepper Pike this year, we’re intentionally showcasing the creative excellence of our talented neighbors surrounding Ursuline College," said Anna Arnold, director of Wasmer Gallery.
All work will be submitted and judged online, at https://easternedge17.artcall.org. The online submission deadline is Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. The artcall website includes detailed instructions, rules and specifications as well as helpful video tutorials on submitting work and sizing images
Each artist may submit a maximum of three artworks. All works must be original, the artist's own concept and creation. Artwork done under supervision or instruction in schools, classes or workshops is not eligible. Copies of another artist's photos, drawings or paintings will not be accepted. Giclee reproduction prints or enhanced giclees of original art, or other forms of reproductions (except for signed & numbered limited editions of prints or photography) are not acceptable. Artwork previously exhibited at Wasmer Gallery or any other juried exhibition in Northeast Ohio is ineligible.
Works in the following media are welcome: painting, works on paper, photography, mixed media, digital media, sculpture, jewelry, glass and fiber. Further information is at https://easternedge17.artcall.org.
The three jurors for Eastern Edge -- Lane Cooper, Ron Rumford and Jerome T. White -- are all accomplished, professional artists whose biographies appear on the artcall webpage.
Eastern Edge is one in a series of public cultural offerings hosted by Ursuline College in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the college's move to Pepper Pike in the 1966-1967 academic year. Under the heading Rooted in Pepper Pike, this series was made possible in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
