Junior Paige Rowan 'Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week' for Second Consecutive Week
September 17, 2013
For the second consecutive week, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference has named Ursuline College junior Paige Rowan as its 'Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week,' the conference office announced Monday (Sep. 16) afternoon. She becomes the first women's soccer player in conference history to win the award in back-to-back weeks.
Rowan was the catalyst in Ursuline's 3-2 victory over host West Liberty University on Tuesday (Sep. 10) night. With UC trailing 2-0 after 67 minutes, Rowan cut the deficit in half when she took a ball from sophomore Vanessa Consiglio and lofted it over the goalkeeper to beat her in the top right corner.
She then assisted on Consiglio's first goal of the season to tie the match at 2-2 in the 75th minute.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Rowan decided the outcome by scoring her second goal of the match and fourth of the season. That was her second game-winner in Ursuline's first three matches and marked the sixth time in her career that she has recorded a multi-goal match.
So far this season, Rowan leads the team in goals (four), points (nine), shots (12) and game-winners (two) in addition to leading the G-MAC in goals, points and game-winning goals.
Rowan and the rest of the Arrows (2-1) will host the University of Findlay at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Sep. 17).
