Books borrowed, Basketball, and Bulbs: Ursuline Looks Back on 2016, by the Numbers

    December 20, 2016

Calendar year 2016 was a busy and productive year at Ursuline College. What better way to re-live the highlights than by looking at the year in numbers? Here are a few:

1 is the place our Lacrosse team captured when they won the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship for the first time in Ursuline athletics history!

2 brand new graduate programs were initiated in 2016: the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner master's program and the Superintendent Licensure program to educate leaders in school administration.

3 students traveled with Sister Diane Therese Pinchot, OSU, to the U.S.-Mexico border for workshops and demonstrations for social justice with Cleveland’s Inter Religious Task Force on Central America.

4 new people were appointed to Ursuline's Board of Trustees. A hearty welcome to Anthony Panzica, Kimberley Osborne-Milstein, Lisa Sutton, and Jay Masurekar.

6 is now the number of years in which a student can complete a bachelor’s degree from Ursuline and a law degree from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law, thanks to a new 3+3 partnership.

7 art exhibitions mounted in Ursuline's Wasmer Gallery.

10 faculty and staff members retired during 2016. Thank you for your service to Ursuline: Sr. Kathleen Burke, Sr. Kathleen Cooney, Pat Fallon, Kevin Gladstone, Jane Hayman, Eileen Kohut, Joseph LaGuardia, David Steiner, Robert Verner, and Dottie Zenobi.

25 is the number of wins the 2015-16 basketball team had (a college record!), which resulted in the Arrows capturing the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship and going on to the NCAA tournament.

27 artworks purchased during Wasmer Gallery exhibitions.

28 students, faculty and community members joined Professor Katherine Jackson on a trip to Kathmandu, Nepal in June to work with vulnerable children.

30 years ago, Ursuline’s Counseling and Art Therapy master’s program was established.

50 years ago, Ursuline College moved to its Pepper Pike campus. What a milestone!

68 artists' works exhibited at Wasmer Gallery.

107 alumnae came to Reunion Weekend 2016.

139 points were scored by Vanessa Consiglio ’16, who graduated in May as the top point scorer in Ursuline soccer history, and captured the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. (She’s now in the U.K. pursing a graduate degree in international business and playing “football” with the Brits!)

350 students graduated from Ursuline College in 2016, including 174 bachelor’s degree recipients, 172 master’s recipients and 4 recipients of the doctor of nursing practice degree.

410 artworks exhibited in Wasmer Gallery.

968 students participated in 67 Campus Ministry-organized social justice programs, prayer opportunities and community service volunteering at seven different agencies.

1,331 visitors attended opening receptions, workshops and other events in the Wasmer Gallery.

5,000 daffodil bulbs were planted by volunteers in the newly named Ursuline College Circle (the traffic circle at Lander, Gates Mills, and Fairmount) in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Ursuline’s move to Pepper Pike.

10,262 items were borrowed from Ursuline's Ralph M. Besse Library (as of Dec. 14).

22,843 dollars were granted to Ursuline by Cuyahoga Arts & Culture, to help fund a series of free, public cultural events in celebration of our 50th anniversary in Pepper Pike.

116,000 dollars were awarded to Ursuline by the Fenn Educational Fund of the Cleveland Foundation in support of “First Year to Career,” an initiative that provides career-focused activities for all four years of college.

22,360,059 dollars were awarded to all students (undergraduate and graduate) in all forms of financial aid during 2016.
