Join Ursuline College Art Therapy and Counseling student, Diane Fleisch Hughes with a global art project involving painting and decorating umbrellas by children and adults. Umbrellas for Peace is a world-wide organization spreading the word of peace. We would be the first in the state of Ohio to participate in the project. Diane is using this project as her thesis, which is based on the theme of building and strengthening communities using art.
The umbrella is a metaphor for protection. It does not discriminate, and all people-regardless of race, age, gender or country–are safe under the umbrella. The top of the umbrella is the shelter and represents our hopes, dreams and aspirations. The underside of the umbrella represents concerns and fears.
