Surprise, Shock, and Gospel: Public Lectures on the Parables of Jesus

October 30, 2018
Location: Mullen Theater

Surprise, Shock, and Gospel: Re-Interpreting the Parables of Jesus Oct. 30, Nov. 6 & 13

The Department of Theological and Pastoral Studies presents three lectures on the parables of Jesus by the popular speaker and writerpicture of fr smiga the Rev. Dr. George M. Smiga STD.

All three presentations will be in Little Theater Mullen Building Room 113 from 7-8pm, with a Q+A session to follow from 8-8:30pm. All are welcome.

Jesus preferred to teach in parables. The gospels are filled with these images and stories that are both elusive and powerful. They engage, delight, and disturb those who hear them. Join us for three evenings to explore new meanings derived from Jesus’ teaching.
These sessions will cover what parables are, how they work, and what Jesus' parables reveal about the Kingdom of God.
  • Tuesday Oct. 30: The Parables of Mark, including the Parable of the Sower and the Wicked Tenants
  • Tuesday Nov. 6: The Parables of Matthew, including the Parable of the Unmerciful Servant and the Vineyard Workers
  • Tuesday Nov. 13: The Parables of Luke, including the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son
