Surprise, Shock, and Gospel: A Public Lecture on the Parables of Jesus

November 13, 2018
Location: Mullen Theater

Surprise, Shock, and Gospel: Re-Interpreting the Parables of Jesus Nov. 13

The Department of Theological and Pastoral Studies presents the last of three lectures on the parables of Jesus by the popular speaker and writer the Rev. Dr. George M. Smiga STD. Join us in Little Theater Mullen Building Room 113 from 7-8pm, with a Q+A session to follow from 8-8:30pm. All are welcome.

Jesus preferred to teach in parables. The gospels are filled with these images and stories that are both elusive and powerful. They engage, delight, and disturb those who hear them. We will explore new meanings derived from Jesus’ teaching. This session will cover what parables are, how they work, and what Jesus' parables reveal about the Kingdom of God.

Father Smiga covered the parables of Mark on Oct. 30 and the parables of Matthew on Nov. 6. The final presentation will be:

Tuesday Nov. 13: The Parables of Luke, including the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son
