Innovations '13 Student Fashion Show

April 28, 2013

Ursuline College Spring Student Fashion Show April 28th

Ursuline College will host the annual fashion show Innovations ’13 on Sunday, April 28, 1 PM, in the College’s Matthew J. O’Brien Athletic Center, 2550 Lander Rd, Pepper Pike. Open to the public, the event features clothing designed by Ursuline fashion students and will include more than 50 original creations for women. Before and after the show, 11:30 AM to 2 PM, boutique vendors will be selling a variety of handmade items. This year’s commentator is fashion design alumnae, Melissa Gerhardt ’10.

Innovations ‘13 show will feature 12 white paper dresses produced by the textile class. All 12 dresses are original designs created with folded white paper. The paper dresses are wearable and will be modeled by the students.

Senior Susan Hayley Fox ’13 will present her collection, “Rose of Araby.” Her senior collection was inspired by the sleek lines of the 1920's deco era and the feminine silhouettes worn by the flapper girls. Her collection of cocktail dresses features A-line and sheath silhouettes which are jazzed up with sequin embellished mesh overlays. She also draws inspiration from the ladylike floral fabrics made famous by designer Lela Rose. Susan is a native of Pepper Pike, Ohio.  She is pursuing a double major in fashion design and fashion merchandising and plans to graduate in December of 2013. During her time at Ursuline College, Susan has been very involved in the fashion program and has served as the President of the Fashion Focus Club for the 2012-2013 school year.

Ursuline’s students prepare for the fashion industry through rigorous course work in design, merchandising, retail, graphics, textiles, apparel construction and production culminating in a senior fashion show.

In addition, the College’s fashion design students participate in study trips throughout major US cities and have the option of attending New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology during their junior year. They also have hands-on access to the College’s Historic Costume Study Collection that includes more than 3,500 pieces of 20th century American apparel and accessories.

Fashion show admission costs are $10 for adults, $5 for students and no charge for children ten and under. Tickets can be purchased at the door. For more information, call 440 646 8142.
