Experts share ideas about Ursuline architecture

March 24, 2017
Location: Wasmer Gallery

Renowned historic preservation advocate Ted Sande and two of the architects of Ursuline’s buildings – Peter Van Dijk and Jack Bialosky, Jr. – will provide insight into the ideas behind and value of Ursuline College architecture in this public panel discussion.

Surrounded by the student-curated exhibition, Designing Ursuline, these good-humored experts will explore questions such as: What did the college's early buildings look like between 1871 and 1966? How were Northeast Ohioans feeling about modernism when the first buildings on Ursuline's Pepper Pike campus were built in the mid-1960s? Are Ursuline values reflected in the campus design? How did the landscape/topography influence the campus layout? What challenges did designers of the most recent campus buildings face?

Moderating this panel will be Karl Brunjes, a graduate student in Ursuline's Historic Preservation program.

This lecture was made possible in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture, and by the following additional sponsors: Sisters of Charity Foundation, The Riverbend Fund, Albert and Audrey Ratner, and Third Federal Foundation.
