The English program at Ursuline College provides students with a solid foundation in language studies. Students have the opportunity to choose from two tracks:
Focuses on literary works and their interpretation. This track prepares graduates for graduate school or paired with education, classroom teaching.
Media and Language
Prepares students for careers in the growing fields of media, communication technology, and professional writing. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics employment of technical writers is expected to grow 15% between 2012-2022.
Ursuline’s Unique Approach
Inscape is a fine arts magazine that has been published at Ursuline since 1945. English and Art students collaborate to publish this work every spring. Students comprise the editorial staff, publishing classmates’ essays, poems, short stories, artwork and photography. Inscape won a First Class Award in 2013 from the Associated College Press.
Sigma Tau Delta
Ursuline College’s English Department has had a
chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, Epsilon Psi, since 1988.
Sister Michael Francis Hearon Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding incoming full-time, first year student who as expressed an interest in the English major.
