Curriculum - K-12 Computer Technology with Endorsement
This program, which is designed around International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards, is intended to prepare teachers to act as technology leaders within their department or building. Therefore, coursework focuses not only on technical skills and use of technology in the classroom, but also prepares students to manage the process of more fully integrating technology into a school setting. The program also requires two major projects of the students. The first project requires students to apply what they learned about instructional design and technology and develop a curriculum unit implementing best practices in technology integration. The second project requires students to go beyond development and actually design and implement a technology solution in their school settings. The program includes a capstone experience, which requires students to write a proposal in the educational action research course in preparation for their final action research project in technology. The computer technology facilitator program area culminates in a 30 credit hour master's degree.
The program is designed to speak not only to the skills of technology integration, but to the processes and problems of implementing a coherent technology plan at a building or district level. There is, therefore, a strong emphasis on clinical experiences that will require the students to actually implement what they are learning in a real school environment.
Please note: This is not a program for beginners. Students are expected to have a solid foundation of basic computer skills (i.e., computer operation, file management, word processing, basic presentations and spreadsheets and use of the Internet, etc.). Therefore,
all applicants must demonstrate their skill set through an assessment as part of the application process.
