Mr. Martin M. Kane - Program Director
Fun Facts

Martin M. Kane is Director of Education Administration at Ursuline College.  Following a long distinguished career in Education Administration in Northeast Ohio, Kane joined the Ursuline Community and continues to act as a leader in the field.  During his career, Martin Kane has served as the President of the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators, Board of Directors Member on the Ohio North Central Association of Schools and Colleges, Board of Directors Member on the National Association of Student Councils.  In 1998 he was named a NASE Distinguished Professor.  In 2013, Kane was honored with the Teaching Excellence Award at Ursuline College.  Before entering the field of education, Kane played in the Boston red Sox minor league system in the Carolina League, PONY League, and Midwest League.

Dr. James Connell

Fun Facts

Jim Connell, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Educational Administration program.  His primary areas of interests are curriculum development and leadership. Prior to coming to Ursuline College, Jim served for 35 years in public education, beginning his career as a high school English teacher at Beachwood High School and concluding his career at Berea City Schools where he served as Curriculum Director, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent, prior to his retirement in 2005.  He is a member of the Distribution Committee and an evaluator for the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation.  Jim is also one of the co-founders of the Jennings Educators Institute and through the Institute has provided professional development for teachers and administrators throughout Ohio.

Mr. Joseph LaGuardia 

Fun Facts

Joe LaGuardia has an MA in English literature, an MA in Religious Studies, and serves as Coordinator for the Assessment of Student Learning and Instructor in Education Administration.  He previously served as and as Interim Associate Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies.  His distinguished career includes serving as an Education Administrator in multiple schools Northeast Ohio. Joe is also the Dean of the Cleveland Ecumenical Institute for Religious Studies.  He the author of LIFE SEASONS.

Dr. Jeanne Sternad

Fun Facts

Dr. Jeanne Sternad, Executive Director of Graduate and Undergraduate Education Programs at Ursuline College. She has an educational philosophy that is rooted in doing “what is right for kids,” and is unwavering in sharing this belief with future teachers and principals. Dr. Sternad has received local, state and national recognition for her leadership in creating the right conditions and motivation for learning and is recognized as an Asset Builder by the Ohio Department of Education. 

Dr. Sternad’s career demonstrates her lifelong commitment to education.  She began teaching 4th and 5th grades and then served as director of the Greater Cleveland Educational Development Center at Cleveland State University for 7 years.  Dr. Sternad served as Superintendent of Garfield Heights City Schools for 5 years.  She began her career in Garfield Heights in 1992 where she functioned as Assistant Superintendent.

In addition to a very successful career in education, Jeanne is the proud mother of two grown daughters, and grandmother of Anderson.  She lives in Medina with her husband of 42 years, Edward.
