Art therapists believe in the power of creativity as a tool for self-reflexivity, healing, and social change. Making and doing has been the foundation of art therapy practice. Drawing on the history of DIY movements, craftivism and fabrication, this course examines the importance of subversive acts in enacting cultural memory. The role of craft and collaboration is examined to offer a critical
account of how art therapy can actively engage with questions about: feminism, gender, labor practices, immigration, genocide,
everyday histories, memory, trauma.
