Dear Future Student,
Welcome to the Social Work program at Ursuline College! Social Work is a crucial field that supports the greater community and works for positive change in our society.
Social workers' hands clasp those of persons in need to raise them up, assisting them in recognizing their strengths and available resources in times of difficulty. Their hearts sort the possibilities from the pain in ways that are based on professional knowledge, skills, values and ethics. Social workers are educated to identify resources, pathways and persons who can make a difference in the lives of adults and children, families, local communities and organizations that affect people's lives. I believe that our hearts are willing, our hands are ready and our heads want to know how to implement the following words of Mother Teresa of Calcutta:
"At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made or how many great things we have done. We will be judged by: 'I was hungry and you gave me to eat. I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless and you took me in.' Hungry not only for bread - but hungry for love. Naked not only for clothing - but naked of human dignity and respect. Homeless not only for the want of a room of bricks -but homeless because of rejection. This Christ in distressing disguise."
Graduates of Ursuline College's Social Work Program are women and men who desire to help people and want to know how to do so effectively.
