Social Work

Welcome to Social Work at Ursuline College……Are You Ready to Make a Difference?

If you are interested in exploring a career in Social Work, we would love to be part of the conversation. Our Social Work Program prepares students to enter the field of Social Work as licensed professionals and equips them for success in graduate schools of Social Work.

Our graduates are making a difference in many fields of Social Work including aging, children and family services, mental health, addictions, medical, and criminal justice. Licensed as social workers, independent social workers, and independent supervising social workers, these graduates run agencies, run programs, teach in social work, and provide services to individuals and families in need throughout Northeast Ohio. Some of our graduates are also providing social work services in North Carolina, Illinois, Maryland, and Michigan.

Our students make a difference through their work in the Social Work Organization (SWO – Standing With Others) where they engage in community service projects such as collecting toiletries and socks for shelters, assisting at community meal sites, and joining forces with other campus organizations to help meet identified needs in the community.

The Social Work Program provides two options in pursuing your degree. We offer a traditional on-the-ground classroom experience for students who are starting their degree work, live on campus, or live within commuting distance who prefer the face to face classroom environment. Our second degree option is an online degree completion program for transfer students who have finished some college coursework. This program option is offered through the Ursuline College Accelerated Program (UCAP).

Both program options follow the same 15-week curriculum plan and field placement requirements and students in both program options must meet the Core Competencies defined by the Council on Social Work Education, our accrediting organization.

Accreditation
The program was initially accredited at the baccalaureate level of social work education from the Council on Social Work Education on June 19, 1995. This accreditation was reaffirmed on June 15, 2015.
