Sister Kathleen Cooney OSU, Ph.D., LSW is Professor of Social Work and Co-Director of the program at Ursuline College. She completed her doctorate in Social Work at the Mandel School of Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University and has designed the social work curriculum and achieved program accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education with her colleague Sharon Z. Wilson, LISW-S.  Sr. Kathleen has served on the Leadership Team of the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland, the Executive Committees of Catholic Charities Board of Trustees, Catholic Social Services of Cuyahoga County’s Advisory Council, the Commission on Catholic Community Action, the Advisory Committee to the Ohio Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Council on Social Work Education’s Council on the Status of Women.

In 2000, she was recognized as one of the YWCA’s Women of Excellence for her work on the Health & Human Services Forum at Ursuline and Circles of leadership: Empowering African American Women..  Sister Kathleen traveled to Romania to do research project with CWRU/University of North Carolina and to El Salvador.  Educationally, her efforts focus on social policies/programs, sociological theory and research, human behavior and the social environment.  Sister Kathleen serves as the faculty advisor to the student Social Work Organization and the Omicron Eta Chapter of the Phi Alpha Honor Society.  She is the Program liaison with the Cuyahoga County Conference on Welfare. 

Sister Kathleen takes delight in the success of her social work students and the alumnae; she writes poetry to express her creativity.
