Gary E. Polster, Ph.D.

Dr. Gary Polster earned his BA and MA from the Ohio State University, doing his field research for his Master's Thesis in a South Chicago fortune-telling Gypsy community. He completed his Ph.D. at Case Western Reserve University, doing his doctoral academic study in American Cultural Studies, Child and Ethnic Studies.

Dr. Polster taught as Professor of Sociology for two years at the University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas. He did his Ph.D. dissertation on childhood in Cleveland's Bellefaire Orphanage from 1868-1929. Kent State Published his work, Inside Looking Out.

Dr. Polster was a member of the St. John College faculty from 1970-74, and has been teaching at Ursuline since 1974. He is co-founder and was executive director of the Frontier Day Camp for Children with Learning Disabilities from 1976 to 2013.

Dr. Polster lives in South Euclid with his wife Barbara. He has three sons, four grandsons, and two granddaughters and enjoys babysitting his grandchildren.
