Sarah S. Preston was born in Cincinnati, OH and received a B.S. degree in chemistry from Ohio University in 1999, her M.S. degree in 2002 and her Ph.D. in 2006, both from The Ohio State University working with Jon R. Parquette. At Ohio State, she was a University Fellow, a GAANN Fellow and a Proctor & Gamble Industrial Fellow. After completing her graduate work, she became a faculty member at Ursuline College, where she currently serves as department chair and explores interests in technology in education and ligand synthesis for asymmetric catalysis. She lives in Mentor with her husband, Adam.Melissa Barranger-Mathys, Ph.D.

Dr. Barranger Mathys is the newest faculty member of the Chemistry Department. She joined Ursuline College after spending 13 years teaching chemistry and biochemistry at Mercyhurst College. She completed her undergraduate work at the University of Akron and her Ph.D. at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. At Ursuline College she teaches Principles of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Most recently she was chosen to be the college mentor of the National Chemistry Olympiad
team. This team consists of four of the brightest high school students and a team of three mentors. In July of each year, this team competes with 76 other countries for the gold in chemistry.
